ANC leads in political funding donations, followed by DA: IEC report

The African National Congress (ANC) has nabbed just over R12 million in donations, the highest followed by its GNU Partner, the Democratic Alliance (DA).

This is revealed in the Independent Electoral Commission(IEC)’s third-quarter political funding donations disclosure report for the financial year 2024- 2025.

Some notable donors that contributed to the ANC were Education and Training Unit, Chancellor House Trust and Botho Botho Commercial Enterprises.

Whilst the DA received over R4 million from Friedrich Naumann Foundation, Main Street 1564 and the Danish Liberal Democracy Programme, amongst others.

The Referendum Party, an unrepresented political party established last year by Phil Craig, came in third, declaring just under R1 million, whilst Mmusi Maimane’s Build One South Africa (BOSA) received a donation of over R160 000 from Konrad Adeneur Stiftung.

Meanwhile, foreign donations constituted 11% of the total value of donations declared for the quarter, as the DA and BOSA declared these.
