ICC working hard to prosecute perpetrators of crimes against humanity

International Criminal Court (ICC) former Vice-President, Judge Dr Sanji Mmasenono Monageng says holding accountable some leaders or countries accused of committing crimes against humanity is a complex matter.

She says investigating such cases is difficult, especially in an ongoing conflict area.

Dr Monageng, currently the Special Advisor to the ICC Prosecutor, further says the ICC is working hard to ensure those responsible for atrocities are brought to book.

Monageng has appealed to all counties in the world to give support to the highest court in the land.

“It is a very complicated matter. I will talk about the ICC where I was a judge. You will find that a prosecutor is investigating in a country where conflict is ongoing. That’s number one. It is very, very difficult but the course has matured. Tribunal just like the Rwanda ones they did the best they could. Now we are left literally with the International Criminal Court which is the only permanent criminal court in the world and we are seeing lot of progress.”
